Listen to "Greening with N.V." radio show

Listen to Greening with N.V. -  Napa's only radio show dedicated to all things sustainable in our community - on KVON AM 1440.  If you aren't near a radio or in your can - don't worry, you can also listen by streaming directly from the stations website.    

Greening with N.V. is co-hosted by Jeri Gill, CEO of Sustainable Napa County and Toni Renee Vierra of eco-Organize and Chair of the Napa Chamber of Commerce's Green & Sustainable Practices Committee, and airs on the fourth Friday of each month.  

The first half of the July 24th show featured guests Barbara Nemko, Superintendent of the Napa County Office of Education (NCOE); Tammy Holloway, NCOE Director of ROP and Technical Education; and Heather Jackson, Chemistry instructor at Vingage High School discussing SNC's Sustainble Education Task Force and how to incorporate sustainability into all aspects of education - from policy to playgrounds.  The second segment featured Wendy Ward, of Preservation Napa Valley, sharing information about how preservation and sustainability go hand in hand, and how you can get a behind the scenes look at some of Napa Valley's most historical and romantic icons on the Barn Tour event on August 30. 

Sustainable Napa County names inaugural Board of Directors

Napa County business and community leaders support sustainability efforts

(Napa, CA – February 24, 2009) – Leaders in the fields of finance, philanthropy, business, wine, and development are rolling up their sleeves to support local sustainability efforts and actions by joining the Board of Directors for Sustainable Napa County.

Elected as Chairman of the Board is Henry Gundling - Senior Vice President, Investments with UBS Financial Services. An active member of his community, he has served on several local non profit boards and is currently a Board member and Vice President of The Peter A. and Vernice H. Gasser Foundation.

Serving as Chief Financial Officer is John Prescott - Vice President and Senior Relationship Officer with Charter Oak Bank with over 30 years of experience in commercial business, construction, and real estate financing. He is currently Chair for Community Resources for Children.

Secretary of the Board and SNC Project Manager is Sally Seymour – Principal, Seymour and McIntosh Photography, bringing more than 30 years experience in public sector environmental programs, most recently as Public Affairs Director for US Environmental Protection Agency’s Pacific Southwest Region.

Other community leaders named to the Sustainable Napa County Board include:

Michael Johnson - Managing Director, Renewable Energy Investment Fund for the National Development Council, which invests in solar and wind generating facilities by providing tax credit equity. Johnson is a Board member of the Mill Valley Art Commission, Hearth Homes Community Building, and Kashong Energy Partners.

Bob Massaro - C.E.O. Healthy Buildings Management Group and Healthy Buildings Construction Group, Inc. Massaro has been in the business of design, building and real estate development since 1981 and has built over 150 projects throughout Northern and Southern California. He is a member of the Board for US Green Building Council-Redwood Empire Chapter, the Napa County Asthma Coalition, and serves on the Napa Development Advisory Committee.

Ed Matovcik - Vice President of Government Affairs for Foster’s Wine Estates. Foster’s is the second largest winemaker in the world, producing an international portfolio of wines from California, Australia, Italy, and South Africa. In his role as Vice President, Ed directs the global company’s local, state, and federal government activities in the Americas as well as its corporate philanthropy and community partnerships. Prior to joining Foster’s, Ed was a Chief of Staff for more than 20 years with Rep. Mike Thompson in the United States Congress and the California State Legislature. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Wine Institute, Napa Valley Vintners, and Napa Valley College.

Joe Peatman - President and CEO of The Peter A. and Vernice H. Gasser Foundation. Peatman is a founding partner of the law firm of Dickenson, Peatman and Fogarty in Napa and has held several local elected offices including Napa Valley Unified School District, Napa Community College, and the Napa County Board of Supervisors.

Harry Price - Partner in CDI, a commercial development investment company. Price has been in real estate development since 1965 in capacities as a mortgage banker, real estate broker, and developer. He has been involved in planning and developing Napa Riverfront properties since 1987 and is Managing Member of the Napa Mill Project and Napa River Inn. Price currently serves as a member of the Boards of the Community Foundation’s Charitable Real Estate Fund, the Arts Council of Napa Valley, and Serenity Homes.

Sustainable Napa County is a nonprofit organization bringing together Napa County business, agriculture, nonprofit, and government entities as part of a comprehensive, collaborative campaign to measurably improve conditions for a healthy, prosperous community. SNC’s mission is to take action for economic vitality, environmental health, and social equity.

Want to save the environment and save money too? Then Sustainable Napa County wants to talk to you. This new nonprofit, a spin-off of the Gasser Foundation, is already working behind the scenes in getting cities to adopt tougher building standards.
