Green Building

iStock_000005634120Medium_revWith talk of environmental changes, rising energy costs, the passing of state initiative AB 32, and green building ordinances on their way to Napa County, green building is a hot topic. But what does it mean to you?

If you're a property owner thinking of building new or adding onto an existing structure, it could mean a world of opportunity to create something with a lower impact on the environment, a higher rate of return on your investment, and safer indoor air quality.

If you rent, talk to your landlord the next time something needs repair. If you know how to make the case for a green retrofit, you might just improve his investment and your quality of life in one fell swoop.

If you're a builder, developer, engineer, or financial institution, now's the time to learn more about ordinances, the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, Build It Green and other certification programs, the Green Points Rating, and other things your customers are talking about.

Even if you're none of the above, you're in the right place to learn about green building and connect with leaders in this emerging field.

Napa preparing building codes tougher than 2011 state rules

Napa is taking a hint from the state’s new green building standards code — referred to as Calgreen and scheduled to take effect in 2011 — and is using it as a foundation to upgrade the city’s standards for construction of commercial, retail and residential buildings.

Sustainable (Green) Building Basics

Sustainable design or building "green" is an opportunity to use our resources efficiently while creating healthier buildings. It provides cost savings to all Californians through improved human health and productivity, lower cost building operations, and resource efficiency--and it moves us closer to a sustainable future.
